FOCUS on Kings' School Winchester Business and Enterprise School, Winchester, is about to celebrate their first year as an EduPrint Centre. The team at King’s have fully embraced the Eduprint Solution, utilising its facility as an actual business model, with Managing, Sales, Marketing and Financial Directors appointed from the student body. Stuart Johnson - Enterprise Coordinator states, “It’s my mission to embed enterprise within the curriculum. EduPrint allows you to develop a project to a level that you couldn’t otherwise. It is without doubt a remarkable educational tool, ideal for Business & Enterprise schools/colleges, together with schools with specialisms in Art, Photography etc". "We are using it to stimulate enterprise education within all curriculum areas and across all year group programmes. We use it to support our sustainable business programmes that run across years 7-11, and to support our integrated primary school programmes. The system offers potential substantial cost savings within the school's administration. Eduprint's capability has engaged both the teaching and pupil communities alike. We have inspirational images of pupils in various working environments throughout the school. Comments from the whole community including existing & prospective parents have been very positive. We have developed several curriculum based projects that involve pupils developing, designing products, production, sales & marketing.” Only 20% of the system’s workload is in-house printing. Winchester Cathedral commissioned a 4mx1m vinyl poster to hang over the High Street. Other in school businesses have sold business cards and calendars. ICT students have designed and printed posters to a professional brief. One project involved groups of GCSE art students making booklets of French stories to sell to local primary schools. Pupils wrote the stories in French, GCSE art students illustrated them and the Management group costed and marketed the finished products. Stuart Johnson says the EduPrint solution is cheaper than commercially printing up to 500 booklets and comparable for between 500-1000. ”But with a commercial printer you can’t print just 30 booklets, smaller projects would never have got past the planning stage.” There is the additional benefit of time saving with no delay to the process waiting for proofs and making amendments. In January, the council allocated funding and premises to take Kings' EduPrint Centre to a new level, details to follow. |
