The Portsmouth Grammar School is one of the country’s leading co-educational schools, a happy and vibrant community located in the historic heart of Portsmouth and only a few minutes’ walk from the Solent. Its enduring aim is to provide academic, pastoral and extra-curricular opportunities of the highest order.

Founded in 1732 by Dr William Smith, philanthropic Mayor of Portsmouth, PGS is Portsmouth’s oldest school. It is proud of its traditions, but also ambitious to be at the forefront of good practice and proud of its success in being so. “In the spirit of our founder”, James Priory ~ PGS Headmaster states, ” We seek to provide excellence in all areas of school life and encourage our girls and boys to think not only about where they will be at 18 but where they aspire to be at 25. Portsmouth is, after all, a city concerned with destinations.”

Tim Howlett – IT Manager and Trevor Barker - Network Manager implemented their EduPrint Centre in 2007. “ When I saw the quality of the large digital photo-montage produced from our students’ photographs, I immediately realised that EduPrint could eliminate our dependency on outsourced print services, dramatically lower print costs and wastage and become a great educational tool to motivate our students, “ comments Trevor Barker. They subsequently appointed Steven Morris as EduPrint Centre Manager due to the large interest and usage from all departments in the school. PGS have recently celebrated their 275-year anniversary and produced a series of floor standing display banners with exciting promotional material using their Eduprint Centre. In addition to this, PGS have forged close links with Portsmouth University and produce a range of material for the faculty and students alike, using the wide range of media available.

PGS Phoetry Club have produced stunning illustrated verses, working with their lecturer to create photographic backgrounds to capture the atmosphere of their poems, which were then exhibited around the school and reviewed by Poet Laureate Andrew Motion.
